Are hostel charges included in tuition fees?

No. Accommodation charges are not included in the tuition fees.
The cost of on-campus accommodation is currently Ksh. 5,000 per semester.
Students should therefore budget separately for accommodation in addition to their tuition and other University charges.

Who can apply for on-campus accommodation?

The following categories of students are eligible to apply for on-campus accommodation:
- All first-year students may apply for on-campus accommodation.
- Vulnerable students, including students with disabilities, may apply for consideration.
Accommodation is allocated on a first-booked, first-served basis, subject to availability.
How do I book accommodation?
Booking for on-campus accommodation is done online. New students can access the accommodation booking link through the New Student Portal, where they also access and download their admission documents.
Students are encouraged to book early because accommodation is limited and is allocated on a first-booked, first-served basis.

What facilities are provided in the University hostels?

Students accommodated in the University's hostels are provided with a bed and basic furniture.
Students are required to bring their own:
- Mattress
- Beddings
- Personal effects and other basic necessities
Each resident student is responsible for taking care of the furniture and other items issued to them during their stay in the hostel.

Am I allowed to cook in the hostel?

No. Cooking in the University hostels is prohibited.
The use of unauthorized electrical appliances that may endanger residents, their property, or University property is also prohibited in the halls of residence.
Students are expected to comply with the University's accommodation and hostel regulations at all times.

What do I do if I don't get on-campus accommodation?

On-campus accommodation is limited and therefore may not be available to every student. However, there is ample off-campus accommodation available for students admitted to Kirinyaga University.
Students who do not secure on-campus accommodation may make arrangements to stay in suitable off-campus hostels near the University.
The University provides information about external hostel providers located near the University premises, including:
- Accommodation costs
- Images of the accommodation facilities
- Contact information for the hostel providers
